My Mother and Maybe Shingles

On February 15, 2013 I stopped by my mother’s house after dropping my three children off at school, like I do every morning. I started her diffuser and she mentioned that she had irritation on her back. It was then I discovered red splotches on her back.  I immediately put Melaleuca and Lavender on it.

I spoke to her caregiver and told her what was going on. She applied the oils and then called me and told me that she thought it could be Shingles. It was very painful for my mother for us to touch her. I got online and looked up Shingles and it could be a mild case of shingles, but we do not know for sure.

Here is a photo of the day of Discovery.

Okay so for the red splotches I made my mom a spray bottle with 30 drops of Lavender, 30 drops of Melaleuca and 30 drops of Eucalyptus in a 4 oz bottle and filled the rest of the bottle with fractionated coconut oil (recipe from www.everythingessential.me).

We sprayed her back every 15 -20 minutes for the first hour until the tingling sensation went away. Then every 3-4 hours or as needed. It helped.

Day 4

We then switched the recipe to 30 drops Melaleuca, 30 drops Lavender and 30 drops of Thyme in a 4 oz bottle with the remaining of the bottle filled with fractionated coconut oil. We sprayed this on her every 3-4 hours or as needed. It was too painful for us to touch her when applying the oils, the spray bottle works great.

 Day 6

I have to be honest and say there were a few days we didn’t get it on every 3-4 hours but at least 4 times a day. She is a trooper,  She has not been herself. I am grateful we were able to provide her comfort.

I made a spray bottle with 20 drops of  Frankincense, 30 drops of Geranium and 30 drops of Bergamot in a 4 oz bottle and filled the rest with fractionated coconut oil.

Day 9

Here is her back 9 days later.

Here is some more information and recipes on Shingles.

Shingles, also know as herpes zoster, is a viral infection of the nerve roots.  The initial viral infection occurs with childhood chickenpox then lays dormant in the body for years and may resurface as shingles when the body is weakened from another disease or aging.
The symptoms are much different than the original chickenpox.  Shingles is characterized by a very painful rash that can be anywhere on the body but most often will be on one side of the abdomen. There will be symptoms prior to the rash, these may include headache, sensitivity to light, flu like discomfort with no fever.  The rash may progress to the point of pussy blisters and include pain and itching. Oils, blends & products recommended:
Oils & Blends:  Clove, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Geranium, GX Assist, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram, Melaleuca, On Guard, Oregano
Essential oils based products:
Also consider: Bergamot, Peppermint, Roman Chamomile, Wintergreen

Suggested protocols:
Prevention.  Since the virus is in the body since childhood chickenpox and comes forth as shingles as the a person is weakened it is important to strengthen the body.  Using the Life Long Vitality supplements along with cleansing and rebuilding with GX Assist and PB Assist will be important. The Aroma Touch Technique is an excellent way to build foundation strength in the immune system and other parts of the body.  It should be used routinely to strengthen they body.

Healing.  Start an oils protocol as early as the symptoms are detected.  The earlier the better. A common thread mentioned by those with success is a capsule taken internally 2 or 3 times daily with:

·   3 drops Melaleuca
·   3 drops Eucalyptus
·   3 drops Lemon
·   3 drops Oregano

Since each person is different also consider other combinations using Frankincense, On Guard, Wild Orange and/or Peppermint.  Many of these oils are in the GX Assist so some may find using the GX Assist regiment during the attack sufficient.

Irritation and discomfort during attack.  Oils that have been mentioned for topical application to ease the pain are Marjoram (most often mentioned), Frankincense, Geranium, Lavender and Wintergreen.

Another successful protocol for pain and healing suggested is:
Spray topically directly to the affected area as often as necessary to address the pain:

·   30 drops Melaleuca
·   30 drops Eucalyptus
·   30 drops Lavender

·   add to 4 ounce spray bottle, fill with fractionated coconut oil, shake before spraying.

Two important suggestions.  One is to make application less irritating is to use a spritz (spray bottle) to apply the oils.  Also, remember that often people who suffer from shingles, can have sensitive skin, so test the oils before using them and use a carrier when necessary.

Every household needs Lavender, so we decided to do a Lavender give away. When I say we, I mean my seven year old son and I. I was trying to decide what to give away and from the other room, he said Lavender. So here it is...

Lavender Give Away - Enter to Win a FREE 15ml Bottle of Lavender Essential Oil (details below)

Lavender is an oil that has been used for millennia and noted for its cleaning and healthful properties.  Through modern scientific testing its time proven properties have been confirmed.  It is one of the most popular and used of the essential oils. There are multiple types of Lavender (from different plants) so it is important to have lavandula angustifolia.  This specie is more refined and therefore more expensive but has much preferred qualities to use for personal health conditions. The preferred Lavender is steam distilled from the flowering tops of plants with some of the finest quality from Europe. DōTerra Lavender is steam distilled from
the flowering tops of plants from France (fine high altitude) and Bulgaria (super high altitude).  These are joined together in
equal ratios.

Topical Application

Because of the gentle properties of Lavender it can be applied topically on even some of the most sensitive of skin.  Topical application to burns, minor cuts, and bruises almost always produces successful results.  At the same time the aroma is very soothing.  A benefit to applying the oil topically to a cut or burn on a child is to let them smell the aroma on the hands as it is applied and it will have a marvelous calming effect.  By using a diffuser this same soothing aroma can help with stress or other mental strain with adults and children.  Again, because of the versatility of Lavender oil, it can be used equally well topically, diffused, or in baths.
