We have been enjoying foot soaks in our home lately with essential oils, my children love it. Check out Weekly Essential face book page for daily tips and to learn more about essential oils.

Everyone, even children get sore muscles, I found this great recipe in the Essential Life book that we have been using in foot soaks.

Sore Muscle Soak
Mix 4 drops black pepper, 2 drops rosemary, 1 drop ginger into 1/2 cup Epsom salt. Add to bathtub of hot water and soak for up to thirty minutes. Remember to drink lots of water while soaking and thereafter.

We have been cutting this recipe in half for foot soaks. A great way to relax and unwind.

Soothing Salve

There are a ton of great Salve Recipes out there and I finally found the one I like. It was given to us a gift from my friend Tracy Despres.  Here is another knock off of Tracy's original recipe. We use slave all the time in our household, different varieties for different needs and the seasons. We use it instead of lotion and it has done wonders for our skin. The soothing salve is very soothing and great to sooth sore muscles and joints. It feels wonderful and it is all natural. You can make it for specific needs. It is wonderful and it is fun and easy to make and share with others. It is also a great gift.

Different oils work for different people so use what you would like and try different things until you find what works best for you.

The Soothing Salve

What you need...

Organic Raw Coconut Oil, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Bees Wax white granules and Frankincense, Lavender, Peppermint, Marjoram and Wintergreen.

The Recipe

  • 1 cup Raw organic coconut oil
  • 1 cup organic olive oil
  • 5 tablespoons beeswax pastilles

Add the following amounts of Essential oils to the Pyrex dish about 3-5 min after removing from heat:
  • 20 drops Lavender essential oil (The Swiss Army knife of oils, Soothes occasional skin irritations)
  • 16 drops Peppermint essential oil (Promotes healthy respiratory function)
  • 12 drops  Marjoram essential oil (Soothes minor skin irritations)
  • 12 drops Frankincense  (Reduces the appearance of blemishes and rejuvenates skin)
  • 6 drops Wintergreen which soothes achy muscles and joints.
  • Four - 4 oz containers of your choice or two 8 oz containers or eight 2 oz. containers
  • You can cut the recipe in 1/2 if you don't need that much or double it and give for gifts

Other oils you can use are GeraniumSandalwood, JasmineRoseLemon. I recommend using Lavender and melaleuca (these two oils alone are amazing for the skin) and switching up Peppermint and Frankincense.

Have your containers washed and ready.

Start by taking a Pyrex measuring dish and a pan with water or a double boiler. Add all ingredients except the essential oils. Heat at medium heat.

Next wait for all ingredients to melt and be patient you do not want to burn the oils. The beeswax will take the longest, if you stir with a wooden stick or spoon it will melt faster.

Once the oils have melted then remove and let it cool.

Wait about 3-5 minutes for it too cool and then add the Essential Oils.
Stir, then pour into containers right away.

Once in containers, let it cool and harden, then put the lid on and keep in a cool place.

The Soothing Salve is great for occasionally soothing sore muscles and achy joints and it supports healthy circulation.  You can double the recipe and it is a great gift to share with others. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

Calm Sunday

It is cold but we are so blessed to be alive.  I slept in, which I never do, made coffee, started the diffuser with Vetiver and Frankincense, the fed horses, read my affirmations and got ready for another amazing day. The kids all wanted cereal for breakfast, (how nice for me) and I made my mom and husband eggs, toast, fresh fruit and yogurt. We had a wonderful morning, very calm and everyone enjoying each other.

I sat on the couch with my sons and daughter and just held them and listened to them. Taking in time with them, being still and enjoying and loving one another. It was a precious and wonderful morning.

As the day went on we wanted to spend quality time together as a family and we did. It was a peaceful day, calm and relaxing. Holding and loving each other and being joyful. Why can't every day be like today?

You never know when your world is going to turn upside down in a second. Remember to be grateful, happy, joyful and love everyone! Enjoy life and your loved ones. Take time to be calm and still and enjoy each other. Get outside into nature. Take a day off from the rest of the world and enjoy yours.

As the day winds down, looking forward to another meal together with Spaghetti and meatballs. I love adding Oregano and Thyme Essential oils to the sauce.  I know it is normal to use Parmesan cheese but we love Cottage cheese on the side and cheddar cheese melted on top, served with a fresh salad.

I hope you all enjoyed your day as we did ours. I wanted to write and remind you that someone always has it worse than you do, be grateful for what you have and send love to those who need it. Be still, quiet and Enjoy!

Rest Easy with Essential Oils

The Fall Back time change really took a toll on me and usually it is the Spring forward change that effects me. Thank goodness for essential oils.

I love to settle down for the evening with some Lavender in warm water and honey. Sometimes I add lemon.

Before bed I will rub the Lavender essential oil on the bottom of my feet, put a drop on my pillow. Then I add my oil of choice for the evening in the diffuser and read a few pages then I go to bed.

We diffuse every night in all our bedrooms. These are the oils we diffuse most, Lemon, Lavender, Vetiver, and Grapefruit. We also all have Amethyst Crystals by our beds.

Everyones body is different and you may have to experiment with different techniques. I also find a couple of gemstones may help as well.

If I am really having a hard time then I will place a drop of Vetiver on my navel and then rub under my nose. Then I will start a deep breathing technique.

Other suggestions for a good relaxing
Keeping a diary so you can become aware of behavior patterns that may be disturbing while trying to relax.
Everyday during a two week period write down what time you go to bed, what you do before bedtime, what you eat and drink, how long you rest through the night and other disturbing related information. Use your journal to keep track of what you use, meditation techniques, breathing techniques, peaceful pictures you may visualize. Review your entries regularly and make changes in your routine to see whether they improve.

Avoid Alcohol and sugar before bed and try eating a banana, which has a natural relaxing aid ingredient.

Slow down and take care of yourself.
