Essential Oils of the Bible

As we approach the holiday season I love sharing essential oils of the Bible. Did you know that essential oils are mentioned more than 600 times in the Bible? In Latin doTERRA means Gift of the Earth and Nature sure did provide us with a wonderful gift. Everything we need is here for us on earth. 

Essential Oils
Let's take a minutes and review or educated you on what essential oils are.
* Essential Oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants or trees.
* They are 50-70 times more potent than herbs.
* Essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures.

Essential Oils in History
Egyptians used essential oils for healing, religious ceremonies, beauty treatments and in food.
* Frankincense and myrrh were gifts of the wise men and were considered very valuable for their healing properties.
* Frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh and cinnamon were considered very valuable cargo along caravan trade routes and were often valued more than Gold.


Essential Oils in the Bible
Essential oils are referenced in 36 out of 39 books of the Old Testament and 10 of the 27 books of the New Testament. Mentioned in Proverbs 21:20 "There are treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise", and in Revelation 22:2 "and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations" and in Mark 6:13 "anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them"

Why am I sharing this information with you, well when it comes to the gifts of the earth, I want to make sure you are educated and truly use the best gifts of the earth out there. I love knowing that the essential oils I use come from a trusted source.

Essential Oils of the Bible
Frankincense - When in doubt use Frankincense. 
The King of Oils and the oil of truth. It invites individuals to let go of lower vibrations and negativity. This oil helps create new perspectives based on light and truth. Frankincense has positive properties such as enlightened, loved protected, wisdom, discerning, spiritually open, connected to father.  It helps to uplift mood and brings feelings of relaxation. It may help smooth the appearance of healthy-looking skin*, and is useful in combination with massage after exercise.


Myrrh - The Oil of Mother Earth


Positive properties, Myrrh supports feelings of being safe in the world, healthy attachments, trusting, bonding, maternal connection, nurtured, loved, secure, grounded. Myrrh oil nurtures the soul's relationship with its maternal mother and with the earth. Open a bottle and smell and apply 1-3 drops over your heart chest, around navel or on bottom of your feet. 

Lavender - The oil of Communication & Calm
Lavender aids in verbal expression and calming the mind. It addresses a deep fear of being seen and heard. Individuals in need of Lavender hide within, blocking their true self-expression.  Lavenders positive properties are; open communication, calm, expressive, emotional honesty, self-aware and peace of mind. Lavender is known as the Swiss Army Knife of Essential Oils.

Spikenard - The Oil of Gratitude


Encourages true appreciation for life. It encourages the soul to surrender and accept life exactly as it is. Spikenards popular properties are grateful, acceptance, content and peaceful.

Cypress - The oil of Motion and Flow


This powerful oil creates energetic flow and emotional catharsis. Cypress works in the heart and mind, creating flexibility. It teaches the soul how to let go of the past by moving with the flow of life. If you are stuck, this is the oil for you. Cypress shows how to have perfect trust in the flow of life. 
Positive properties, flexible, trusting, flowing with life, adaptable.

Cedarwood - The oil of Community


This oil brings people together to experience the strength and value of community. Cedarwood assists to those who struggle to form bonds within social groups. Cedarwood supports individuals in seeing that they are not alone. It invites individuals to both give and receive, so they may experience the strength of groups and the joy of relationships.  Positive properties of cedarwood are emotionally connected, belonging, supported, social bonds, sociable, and community oriented. 

I love history and I loved learning about the history of essential oils in biblical times. When I first learned that they were in the bible years ago, that really interested me. I love to learn and essential oils were new to me, I started using them in 2009. I love the learning journey I am on and I love sharing what I learn with all of you.
